Twelve days ago, it opened an exhibition hall dedicated to technologies powered by 5G connectivity at the Gangneung Olympic Park and earlier today it launched a pilot service of the next-generation network at the PyeongChang Winter Olympics. Its intentions to do so were announced 3 years ago - during the MWC 2015 in Barcelona. 5G networks are said to provide 20x faster data transmission speeds than the current 4G networks. For this pilot launch, KT Network has partnered with Intel that has developed the 5G modem chips and Samsung which have developed a tablet that works on both 4G and 5G networks. The audience at the Olympics venues in Gangwon will have access to some 200 5G-enabled tablets to try out the service. Commercialization of 5G networks is expected to happen in a year's time. Source
