Leica Leitz Phone 3 goes official as a Japan-exclusive camera phoneTwo years after its second smartphone Leica is launching the Leitz Phone 3. As usual - for Japan only and made by Sharp. Тhe model resembles its 2022 sibling in many ways. It has the same 6.6-inch Pro IGZO OLED display with a resolution of 1260 x 2730 px, 10-bit color bit depth, 2000 cd/m² peak brightness, and a 1-240Hz variable refresh rate. The camera department has also been retained in terms of hardware. It arrives with a 47.2MP main shooter with a 1-inch sensor, Octa Phase Detection Autofocus, Summicron aspherical lens, and a Spectrum sensor. It is adjoined by a 1.9MP depth sensor. On the front, the same 12.6MP selfie camera resides with a 78-degree FoV and an f/2.3 aperture. It is the software of the device that got updated, including the user interface and the addition of new widgets related to photography. One is the Golden Hour which alerts the user for the best time to snap photos before sunset and after sunrise. The LFI widget presents images from the Leica Fotografie International Gallery. The Leica Perspective Control from the actual cameras is now available on a smartphone. Filters such as Leica Looks and Leica Tones have also been updated.

Leica has updated the design. While retaining the same footprint, the new model is now available in Leica Black instead of white and weighs 209 g. It also has a premium polyacrylic texture on the rear shell to imitate the feeling and aesthetics of a real Leica camera. Moreover, there's a cover for the camera island in the way traditional cameras have covers for their lenses. The chipset has also been upgraded to a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. It is paired with 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 512GB of UFS 4.0. Power is supplied by a 5000 mAh battery with wireless charging support. The Leitz Phone 3 arrives with a USB Type-C 3.1 port, a headphone jack, dual stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos and Hi-Res certification, and an in-display fingerprint sensor. The model runs on Android 14 and supports Bluetooth 5.3, Wi-Fi 6, and NFC. It will go on sale in Japan on April 19th.
