A third POCO model was unveiled today, and for the third time, it happens to be a re-branded Xiaomi Redmi device. This news is dedicated to the POCO X8 is the re-branded version of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 17 Pro with the 8340 mAh battery. The phone arrives globally ahead of its India release and brings a feature set that emphasizes endurance, ruggedness, and display quality rather than chasing flagship‑class performance.
The POCO X8's display is one of its defining components: a 1.5K (1280 x 2772 ) AMOLED panel protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2. It reaches a peak brightness of 3500 nits, supports 12‑bit color, DCI‑P3, DC dimming, 3840Hz PWM dimming, and carries TÜV Rheinland certifications for low blue light, flicker‑free viewing, and circadian‑friendly operation. The screen refreshes at up to 120Hz, with a 240Hz touch sampling rate and a 3,200Hz instantaneous sampling mode available through Game Turbo. POCO also includes Wet Touch Technology 2.0 and 16,000‑step automatic brightness adjustment.
The POCO X8 is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 6s Gen 4, a 4nm octa‑core chipset clocked up to 2.4GHz with an Adreno GPU. Storage and memory configurations include 6GB+128GB, 8GB+256GB, and 12GB+256GB, using LPDDR4X RAM and either UFS 2.2 or UFS 3.1 depending on the variant. The phone runs Xiaomi HyperOS 3 and integrates Google Circle to Search and Gemini, along with a suite of AI editing tools such as AI Erase, AI Remove Reflection, AI Image Expansion, AI Sky, AI Bokeh, and AI Beautify.
The camera system centers on a 50MP main sensor with OIS and a 2MP depth camera, while the front houses a 16MP shooter. Both front and rear cameras record video at up to 1080p at 30fps. POCO adds an underwater mode designed for shooting photos and videos when the phone is submerged.
Battery life is a headline feature: the 8340 mAh cell supports 67W HyperCharge and 22.5W wired reverse charging. POCO claims the battery retains at least 80% of its capacity after 1600 charging cycles. The phone uses a USB‑C port and supports PD3.0 and PD2.0.
The POCO X8 carries IP66, IP68, IP69, and IP69K ratings, making it resistant to dust, high‑pressure water jets, and prolonged submersion. POCO says the device passed a two‑meter, 72‑hour water‑resistance test and a three‑meter drop test. The chassis measures 163.45 x 78.27 x 8.6mm and weighs 223g. Other features include dual speakers with Dolby Atmos, NFC, Bluetooth 5.1, an IR blaster, dual SIM support, an in‑display fingerprint sensor, and full navigation support.
