Counterpoint and Strategy Analytics report yet another quarter of decline in the smartphone market

Counterpoint and Strategy Analytics both report a decline in smartphone shipments, by 9% and by 7% YoY for the Q2. This is the fourth consecutive quarter of annual decline by smartphone volumes. This is attributed to chip shortages, COVID-19, and globally deteriorating economic conditions. According to both companies, Samsung retained its top position with a 9% YoY growth in Q2 (Counterpoint) and 9.5% YoY growth in Q2 (Strategy Analytics). Apple is second with a 5% decline according to Counterpoint and a 3.3% growth according to Strategy Analytics. Both research agencies report a huge 25% for Xiaomi, which is third. Oppo and Vivo which are third and fourth also experience declines by an average of 20%. Counterpoint also reports that Honor is strengthened and Huawei is showing signs of recovery. The future of the smartphone market for the rest of the year continues to be pessimistic due to the persissting of the above-mentioned problems.Related news
