The first time 3D Time of Flight (TOF) sensing technology has been officially launched was at the MWC 2018 in Shanghai two months ago and the announcement was made by Vivo. It is a wide-known fact that the company that owns Vivo - BBK Electronics, owns Oppo as well and has shares in OnePlus. So it is no wonder that the 3D TOF tech has found its way on the Oppo R17 Pro and earlier on the Oppo Find X. It works by emitting a pulse of light and calculating its "time of flight" on return to the sensor. This allows it to accurately map objects at up to three meters in front of it. This type of tech falls in what is widely known in China as a 3D structured light. On the R17 Pro it is used to create 3D images and this is a first in the industry.Related news
