Sony Xperia 1 VIII is launched, powered by Alpha, Bravia, and Walkman, with the new ORE designAdd DeviceSpecifications as a preferred source on GoogleThe Sony Xperia 1 VIII arrives with the confidence of a device that knows exactly what its audience wants: pro‑grade imaging, uncompromised audio, and a design philosophy rooted in real materials rather than fleeting trends. The new model builds on that legacy with a sweeping set of upgrades across camera hardware, display technology, sound engineering, and long‑term performance - all while keeping the features that set Xperia apart.

Sony frames the device with its ORE design language, inspired by natural minerals and expressed through finishes like Graphite Black, Iolite Silver, Garnet Red, and Native Gold. The camera housing has been completely re‑engineered to accommodate a telephoto sensor nearly four times larger than before - a 48‑megapixel 1/1.56‑inch Exmor RS unit that dramatically improves low‑light performance. The new layout also shifts the lenses for more stable two‑handed shooting, complemented by a dedicated shutter button, half‑press focus lock, and a repositioned flash for more even illumination.

The camera experience leans heavily on Sony's Alpha heritage. Pro Photo and Pro Video interfaces return with RAW support and full manual control, while Creative Look presets and S‑Cinetone for mobile bring cinematic color straight out of the camera. AI plays a larger role this generation: the new AI Camera Assistant suggests expressive looks based on subject, scene, and even weather, while AI Camerawork and Posture Estimation keep subjects centered and stable. Auto Framing now works across 16, 24, and 70 mm, capturing the full scene while simultaneously recording a close‑up - and even allowing snapshots during video capture.

Macro capabilities also take a leap. The 140 mm telephoto lens now focuses as close as 15 cm with autofocus, while the ultra‑wide lens automatically takes over for extreme close‑ups at just 5 cm. Across all lenses, ZEISS‑calibrated optics, 120 fps sensor readout, real‑time Eye AF, and up to 30 fps AF/AE burst shooting reinforce the Xperia’s professional ambitions.

Sony's audio pedigree is equally prominent. A premium 3.5 mm jack returns with a high‑grade audio circuit, gold‑incorporated solder, and fine sound resistors borrowed from the WALKMAN line. Full‑stage stereo speakers have been redesigned with new drivers for deeper bass, wider staging, and sharper imaging. DSEE Ultimate upscaling, LDAC, aptX Adaptive, 360 Reality Audio, Dolby Atmos, and high‑resolution wired and wireless playback round out one of the most complete audio packages on any smartphone.

The display continues Sony's BRAVIA‑powered approach: a 6.5‑inch FHD+ HDR OLED panel with 120 Hz refresh, 10‑bit tonal gradation, BT.2020 support, D65 white point, and Creator Mode for reference‑grade color. A rear light sensor and Sunlight Vision processing maintain visibility even in harsh lighting. Collaboration with Sony Pictures ensures Dolby Atmos playback "as the filmmakers intended," whether through speakers or premium headphones.

Under the hood, the Sony Xperia 1 VIII runs on Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 platform, with a 4.6 GHz Oryon CPU delivering 20% more performance and 35% better efficiency. A vapor chamber and graphite sheets manage thermals for sustained gaming and content creation, while Xperia Game Enhancer and an FPS optimizer help balance performance, temperature, and battery life. Storage reaches up to 1 TB, RAM up to 16 GB, and microSD expansion supports cards up to 2 TB - all without tools, even with the device’s water‑resistant build.

Battery life remains a priority: the 5000 mAh cell is rated for up to two days of use, supported by Battery Care and Adaptive Charging to preserve health over four years. Wireless charging is included, and Sony commits to four Android OS upgrades and six years of security updates.
