Unihertz Tank Review - a new contender for the battery autonomy leader title

Overview

Unihertz entered the big-battery rugged smartphone niche market with the Unihertz Tank. This is a big leap for the brand in many ways as Unihertz offers models that are compact and have some quirky features. The Tank has such, too, but with its 22000 mAh battery and classic ruggedized design, it is a new realm for the brand itself. We must say it is a worthy competitor of the best big-battery rugged smartphones we've tested.

Specifications

Unihertz Tank features a 6.81-inch IPS display with a resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels. It is protected by a Panda MN228 Glass. There's a punch hole in the top left corner of the screen for the 32MP Samsung S5KGD1 selfie camera with an f/2.0 aperture. The rear camera department comprises three shooters. The main one uses a 108MP Samsung S5KHM2 sensor with an f/1.75 lens. It is adjoined by a 2MP OmniVision OV2680 macro camera with an f/2.4 aperture. The main and macro cameras are aided by a dual-tone LED flash. Finally, there's the 20MP Sony IMX350 Night Vision camera with an f/1.8 aperture that is aided by dual IR lights. The Unihertz Tank is based on the 6nm MediaTek Helio G99 (MT6789) chipset with a 2.2GHz octa-core CPU and a 1GHz dual-core Mali-G57 GPU. The SoC is paired with 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 256GB of non-expandable UFS 2.2 storage. Power is supplied by a 22000 mAh battery with 66W fast charging support. The Unihertz Tank has a dual-SIM card tray and there's no option to expand the storage. Both cards support 4G connectivity simultaneously. The network bands supported by both cards are as follows: 2G GSM (2/3/5/8), 2.5G (BC0/BC1), 3G WCDMA (1/2/4/5/8), 4G TDD-LTE (34/38/39/40/41), and 4G FDD-LTE (1/2/3/4/5/7/8/12/13/17/18/19/20/25/26/28A/28B/66). The wireless connectivity options of the model include Bluetooth 5.3, dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Wi-Fi Direct, Wi-Fi Hotspot, and Wi-Fi Display. The smartphone also supports NFC and has an IR blaster. It works with GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, and Beidou and is fitted with a USB Type-C 2.0 port with OTG, a 3.5 mm jack, and a side-mounted fingerprint sensor. It runs on stock Android 12 and has an IP68 and MIL-STD-810H rating.

Unihertz Tank arrives in a black rectangular box with a textured surface that depicts the outlines of the model. The brand name is imprinted on the top of the lid and the model name appears on its sides. Inside, the smartphone resides below an envelope containing some of the accessories and on top of the compartment that houses the charger and USB cable.
