Unihertz 8849 Tank Pad Review

Display

Unihertz 8849 Tank Pad boasts a 10.95-inch IPS display with a 1920 x 1200 pixels resolution. It is very bright making it quite comfortable for outdoor viewing or in other environments with high ambient brightness. Panda Glass is used for protecting the screen and there's an additional screen protector included in the box. The Display settings allow you to adjust the brightness level, refresh rate, font size, icon shape, headline/body font, screen timeout, and lock screen settings. You can also switch on/off the adaptive brightness toggle, the dark theme, the night light one, the lift-to-wake, and the auto-rotate one. Our usual measurements of the white and black luminance, static contrast ratio, and color temperature of the display are published below. As usual, for a more realistic result, we measure them twice - on a single frame that displays 50% white and 50% black and on two separate frames displaying a fully white and a fully black screen.

The maximum brightness of our review unit is 864.667 cd/m² measured from the center on a screen that shows 50% white with the brightness level set at maximum. The brightness measured on a 100% white screen is 854.155 cd/m². It is a rear occasion to have a higher brightness on a 50% white screen, so it is worth mentioning even though the difference is marginal. The static contrast ratio is around 1500:1. The temperature of the white point is in the pleasant 8000 K range.

Our brightness uniformity measurement shows that the display is relatively uniformly bright. The measurements are taken with the tablet held in a portrait position. The top one-third of the screen has an average brightness of 818.39 cd/m². The middle one-third has an average brightness of 813.78 cd/m². The bottom one-third is marginally brighter with an average brightness of 829 cd/m². The temperature of the white point measured on different parts of the screen is from 7600 K to 8000 K. The CIE diagram shows that the display has a color space coverage that's significantly narrower than 100% sRGB. The blue, cyan, green, magenta, pink, and red hues will obviously look duller. At the same time, the yellow, yellow-green, orange, some blue, and magenta hues will be reproduced correctly. The display panel has a traditional vertical striped RGB subpixel arrangement.
