Doogee S61 Pro Review - versatile design and good performance in a compact rugged package

Overview

The Doogee S61 Pro is a rugged smartphone that focuses on design among all other things. Created especially to bring aesthetic satisfaction, this device is also lightweight and compact compared to most other mobiles in this class, hence it can be easily operated with one hand. The visually pleasing device has the latest certifications for also being prone to most environmental challenges. It arrives with pure Android 12, generous memory, a 48MP main shooter and a Night Vision camera in a dual-ring design, a smooth display, and a chipset that ensures reliable performance and connectivity.

Specifications

The Doogee S61 Pro is built around a 6-inch IPS display with a resolution of 720 x 1600 pixels. It offers an average of 500 nits of peak brightness and a 1000:1 static contrast ratio, according to the manufacturer. The screen is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass. The model's processing power depends on a 64-bit MediaTek Helio G35 chipset. Manufactured after TSMC's 12nm FinFETprocess, it has an ARMv8.2-A architecture with an octa-core CPU comprising four A53 cores clocked at 2.3GHz and another quartet of those but clocked at 1.8GHz. The graphics department is managed by an IMG PowerVR GE8320 GPU clocked at 680 MHz. There's 6GB of LPDDR4X RAM on board as well as 128GB of expandable built-in memory. The camera department comprises a single selfie snapper and two rear ones. The device is powered by a 5180 mAh battery with 10W charging support. On the back, there's a 48MP Samsung S5KGM1 main unit with an f/1.8 aperture and a quad-LED flash. It is adjoined by a 20MP Sony IMX350 Night Vision camera with four infrared lights. On the front, there's a 16MP Samsung S5K3P9 camera for selfies with an f/2.0 aperture. The Doogee S61 Pro is fitted with a triple-slot tray for two Nano-SIM cards and a microSD card. Both SIM cards support 4G VoLTE and the following network bands: 2G GSM (2/3/5/8), 2.5G (BC0/BC1), 3G WCDMA (1/2/4/5/6/8/19), 4G TDD-LTE (34/38/39/40/41), and 4G FDD-LTE (B1/2/3/4/5/7/8/12/13/17/18/19/20/25/26/28A/28B/66). The SAR values for the model are as follows: EU head - 0.481 W/kg, body - 1.204 W/kg. The wireless connectivity options of the model include NFC, Bluetooth 5.0, dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Wi-Fi Direct, Wi-Fi Hotspot, and Wi-Fi Display. The smartphone runs on Android 12 and works with GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, and Beidou. It is also equipped with a USB Type-C port, a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, and a 3.5 mm jack. In an additional box, Doogee has provided a full set of replaceable rear shells for the S61 Pro - wood grain, AG glass, and carbon fiber-patterned ones with the necessary equipment for their replacement and corresponding instructions. Finally, there's the box with Doogee's AJ01 smart glasses. This is a pair of sunglasses with polarization. In addition to protecting the eyes outdoors, they have built-in speakers and microphones in the frame. We have tested them and they are very convenient for listening to the news outdoors, taking calls (good noise canceling), etc. The glasses have a case and a USB charger with magnetic connectors that attach to the connectors on the two sides of the glasses to charge them. Please note that these are not the type of glasses that display information on the actual glass.
