Design, build and controls

Oukitel WP30 Pro is a ruggedized smartphone without the classic rough outline. The octagonal shape is softened on the corners without compromising the usual padding that protects them from drops. This clean outline beautifully corresponds with the minimalist rear shell. Made of polycarbonate with a carbon fiber-like pattern it adds to the overall smoothness and relative lightness of the device. If there's a focal point in design, on the WP30 Pro that would be the rear display. It resides in an octagonal housing with a metal frame. The three cameras with the LED and IR lights are symmetrically positioned on the display's sides. The overall impression is one of solidity and elegance. Oukitel WP30 Pro is IP68 and IP69K rated meaning it has advanced protection against water, dust, dirt, sand, humidity, salt mist, and other unfavorable conditions of the environment. The MIL-STD-810H certification ensures the device is properly tested to survive drops on its front, back, sides, corners, and edges. More specifically, Oukitel mentions that this particular model can be dropped from a height of 1.5 meters 16 times and will be operational. Its operational temperature range is -20℃~55℃ and the storage temperature range is -40℃~70℃. The device can also be soaked in water deep 1.5 meters for up to 30 minutes. Compared to other rugged smartphones with a similar display size and battery capacity, the WP30 Pro is a bit more compact measuring 83.6 mm in width, 177.5 mm in height, and 19 mm in depth. It also weighs 413.8. The slightly arched design of the back provides a slightly better handheld experience. The WP30 Pro seems to use the same display as the WP27 Pro with 3.5 mm side bezels, a 5 mm top one, and a 7 mm bottom bezel. A 1.1 mm thick Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protects the screen along with the tough polycarbonate display casing that protrudes from the glass surface. There's a punch hole in the top center of the screen for the 32MP selfie camera. The 0809 receiver is located right below the top frame. The light and proximity sensors are placed to the left of the earpiece in the top bezel. The device supports on-screen gesture navigation and navigation with virtual buttons. Both options can be customized. The rear shell has a carbon fiber-like pattern and is made of smooth polycarbonate. The top half is occupied by the module that combines the rear shell and the cameras. The octagonal center of the ensemble is taken up by the OLED screen. The main 108MP camera and the triple-LED flash are positioned to the left of the screen. The Night Vision camera, the dual IR lights, and the macro lens are to its right. All these are surrounded by a metal frame and covered with glass. The frame protrudes a millimeter or two to protect the glass to a certain extent. The frame of the device is made of metal that's partially visible on the left and right. The rest of the frame is covered by shock-absorbing TPU and the four corners are additionally reinforced. The left frame houses the customizable button in a bright orange color and the dual-SIM tray. The latter can be easily plugged out without any tools and has a red insulating band. The right frame houses the Volume Up and Volume Down buttons with a striped pattern on them as well as the Power button with an embedded fingerprint sensor. There are three visible screws on each of these frames attaching it to the main chassis. The bottom frame has a lanyard hole on the right corner, a microphone hole, and a USB Type-C port protected by an insulating cap. There's also a bottom-firing 1217 BOX speaker with 96 dB loudness that's aided by an AW88394 sound amplifier. The top frame is the home of the second mic.
