Battery Tests

Cubot KingKong AX is equipped with a 5100 mAh Li-Pol battery with 33W fast charging support. All battery tests we run on the devices we review are developed by us and performed with the screen of the device calibrated to 200 cd/m2. Battery-saving features are disabled. We've tested an identical or similar combination of a display, refresh rate, chipset, and battery, so we've built a good base for making comparisons. All test results and comparisons are below.
Charging (1 hour and 35 minutes)
The battery of our KingKong AX was charged in full for 1 hour and 46 minutes with the provided USB cable and charger. The charging process is very fast until the battery regains 70% of its charge. That happens 35 minutes from the start. After this, the process slows down visibly. It takes 15 minutes to reach 80%, another 15 minutes to reach 90%, and 30 minutes to finish charging the battery in full. The battery temperature starts at 34°C, jumps to 40°C in 3 minutes, and hits its peak of 51°C after another 20 minutes. It maintains this level for 8 minutes and begins decreasing, measuring 30°C in the end.
Browsing at 60 Hz (12 hours and 51 minutes)
During our intensive browsing test with the display's refresh rate set at 60Hz, the battery of our KingKong AX lasted for 12 hours and 51 minutes. The discharging process draws a relatively steady line from the start until the end with a slightly slower start. The battery temperature starts at 25°C, reaches 30°C in 30 minutes, then 31°C after another half an hour and remains at this level for 8 hours. After that, it goes up a notch to 32-33°C, staying at this level until the end.
Browsing at 90 Hz (10 hours and 12 minutes)
During our intensive browsing test but with the screen's refresh rate set to 90Hz, the battery of our KingKong AX lasted for 10 hours and 12 minutes. The discharging process follows the same pattern as the 60Hz test. The battery temperature starts at 27°C. Reaches 33°C in 45 minutes and remains at this level for 8 hours. After that, it increases by a degree, and maintains a level of around 34°C until the end.
Browsing at 120 Hz (8 hours and 51 minutes)
The last browsing test with the screen's refresh rate set to 120Hz shows 8 hours and 51 minutes of battery life in intensive browsing conditions. The discharging process follows the same pattern observed during the previous two browsing tests. The battery temperature starts at 29°C. Reaches 34°C in 45 minutes, and stays at this level until the end.
1080p Video at 60 Hz (13 hours and 45 minutes)
1920x1080, 30 fps, H.264, 20Mbps bitrate
The video test for battery life uses a 1080p video at 30 fps with a ~20Mbps rate is used. Our review unit's score is 13 hours and 45 minutes. The discharging process does not differ from the previously run tests - a slightly slower start and a steady pace until the end. The battery temperature starts at 32°C and stays at this level until the end with occasional ups to and drops 33°C.
2160p Video at 60 Hz (11 hours and 22 minutes)
3840x2160, 30 fps, H.264, ~55 Mbps bitrate
The 4K video battery life test uses a 2160p video at 30 fps with a ~55 Mbps rate. In this test, the battery of the Cubot KingKong AX lasted for 11 hours and 22 minutes. The discharging process curve is the same as the one of the 1080p video test. The battery temperature starts at 30°C, increases to 33°C in 20 minutes, and after 4 hours drops to 32°C, remaining at this level until the end.
3D Graphics/Gaming 60 Hz (7 hours and 56 minutes)
YEBIS OpenGL ES 3.0 3D Tech Demo
For the 3D Graphics/Gaming test we used Real Racing 3 because the Yebis app did not work. The result from this test is 7 hours and 56 minutes. The discharging process maintains the same profile as the other tests. The battery temperature starts at 27°C, reaches 46°C in 1 hour, and remains at this level until the end with occasional ups to and drops from 37°C.
