Xiaomi 17 Ultra goes global with an advanced Leica camera set, 6000 mAh battery

Add DeviceSpecifications as a preferred source on GoogleXiaomi 17 Ultra made its global debut today before the official opening of the MWC 2026 in Barcelona. By and large, the global version is almost completely identical to its Chinese counterpart, which was unveiled two months ago. The main difference is the battery capacity, which on the global model is reduced to 6000 mAh.
The Xiaomi 17 Ultra reads like a device built by a company that's tired of playing catch‑up and is now openly trying to outgun every other camera‑centric flagship. The whole phone revolves around that Leica‑co‑developed imaging system, and Xiaomi clearly wants you to notice. The 50MP Light Hunter 1050L main sensor is a full‑inch class unit with large 1.6 μm pixels and Leica's 1G+6G optics at f/1.67, giving the impression that Xiaomi is leaning harder than ever into the "serious photography tool" narrative rather than just chasing specs.
The supporting cameras reinforce that ambition. The 200MP periscope telephoto isn't just about zoom bragging rights; the Leica APO‑certified optics and the trio of specialized glass elements show a real attempt to tackle chromatic aberration - something many high‑zoom phones still struggle with. The 4.3x optical zoom, variable aperture, and 100 mm equivalent focal length make it feel more like a compact camera lens system than a typical smartphone module.
The 50MP ultra‑wide with autofocus and a 5 cm macro mode rounds out a setup that seems designed to avoid weak spots. Even the 50MP selfie camera gets autofocus and stabilization, which is still surprisingly rare. Video topping out at 8K/30 and 4K/60 fits the flagship expectations, and the Leica Edition hints at Xiaomi wanting to cultivate a niche of photography purists.
The display continues the "no compromises" theme. A 6.9‑inch M10 OLED LTPO panel with a near‑2K resolution, 420 ppi, and a claimed 3500‑nit peak brightness at 25% APL puts it among the brightest screens on any phone today. HDR10+ and Dolby Vision support, plus a 1–120 Hz adaptive refresh rate and ceramic glass protection, make it feel like Xiaomi is trying to match or surpass the best displays in the industry rather than simply keep pace.
Performance hardware is equally aggressive. The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, paired with up to 16 GB of LPDDR5X RAM and up to 1 TB of UFS 4.1 storage, positions the 17 Ultra as a device meant to handle heavy imaging workloads, gaming, and on‑device AI without breaking a sweat. The 6000 mAh battery supports 90W wired, 50W wireless, and 22.5W reverse charging, and suggest Xiaomi wants users to feel like battery anxiety is a thing of the past.
HyperOS 3.0, Wi‑Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, NFC, Dolby Atmos stereo speakers, a 3D ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, and a USB‑C 3.2 Gen 2 port round out a feature list that feels intentionally exhaustive. Xiaomi seems determined to avoid giving critics any easy, "but it lacks…" talking points. In Europe, the device is available with 16GB and 512GB as a base storage version, priced at EUR 1499.
