Samsung develops an AI application processor (AP) that resembles a human brain for the Galaxy S10According to Korean media ETNews citing "a high-ranking official in the industry", Samsung is developing an artificial intelligence application processor (AIAP) that resembles the human brain. It will be used on the Galaxy S10. The AIAP is a mobile processor optimized for artificial intelligence operations such as image processing, image recognition, and speech recognition. This will be the first time Samsung has commercialized an artificial intelligence AP. This specific one will have two dedicated artificial intelligence cores. Samsung manufactures APs with a 7nm EUV process that has recently been completed. This is a next-generation technology which uses a specific light source is shot on a wafer to engrave a semiconductor circuit. So far, argon fluoride (ArF) has been used for exposure. However, as the semiconductor circuit is designed to be less than 10 nm, the conventional exposure process has reached its limit. It is impossible to draw a finer circuit and this is where EUV comes to play. It has a wavelength length of only 1/14 that of ArF which makes it suitable for more detailed semiconductor circuit pattern implementation. This can reduce complex multi-patterning processes, achieve high-performance semiconductors and improve productivity.Origen
