Cubot KingKong X Review
The Cubot KingKong X will go on sale on July 22nd. You will be able to purchase it from this date on at a promotional price from the Cubot's Official AliExpress Store.

Rear cameras, photo and video samples

Cubot KingKong X houses two rear cameras. The main one uses a 100MP OmniVision OVA0B40 sensor with a 1/1.8" optical format and a 0.612 μm pixel size. By default, it outputs 25 MP images thanks to the sensor's 4-in-1 pixel binning technology. It is also capable of 4K video recording at 30 fps. The same sensor is used by the main cameras of the Tank 2 Pro by Unihertz and the Tank Mini 1 by Unihertz. On the Cubot KingKong X, this sensor is combined with a 6-element lens with an f/1.89 aperture. The second rear camera is a 5MP OmniVision OV5670 macro unit with autofocus. There's a third lens on the rear shell but it remains unknown whether this is a basic depth sensor or is placed simply for aesthetic purposes. Below we provide photo and video samples shot with the main camera.

Selfie camera

The front-facing camera of the Cubot KingKong X uses a 32MP Sony IMX615 sensor with a 1/2.80" optical format and 0.8 μm pixel size. It is paired with an f/2.25 lens and can record FHD videos at 30 fps. We have reviewed smartphones that use the very similar Sony IMX616 sensor and these include Oukitel WP35, Oukitel WP33 Pro, Cubot KingKong AX, Oukitel WP30 Pro, Fossibot F102, Doos S100, Doogee V30, and Samsung Galaxy A52 5G. Below we list three sample photos shot with the front camera of the Cubot KingKong X.

Camera App

The Camera app used on the KingKong X is getting ever more popular. It is, indeed, very user-friendly and easy to work with, especially, when you can access quickly the settings without switching to a different screen. The layout is quite familiar. The bottom is occupied by the three big elements - the shutter button, the camera switch, and the shortcut to the Photos app. The shooting modes are listed in a reel above these buttons. The default one is called "Picture". In addition to choosing a digital zoom level up to 4x, you can also adjust the flash settings, switch on/off AI and HDR as well as access the photo settings. The "Video" shooting mode is very similar but without the AI option and with settings suited to video recording. The "Night" mode uses the main camera and supports HDR.
The "Beauty" mode also uses the main camera, supports HDR, and works with the LED flash. It allows you to adjust the degree of background blur and enable some beautifying features such as face buffing, whitening, slimming, etc. 100M is the setting that you should choose, in case you want to snap photos in the original sensor resolution. The "Macro" mode switches to the macro camera. It also supports HDR and works with LED flash. The "More" tab gives you access to the "Pro" mode, Portrait, Gif, Panorama, Mono, Bokeh, and QR Code. The Pro mode lets you adjust the white balance, ISO, exposure, focus style, and shutter speed. The Portrait and Bokeh mode are the same with the same option for background blur adjustment.
The interface for the front camera is identical and when you choose a mode not supported by the selfie snapper, the device switches to the rear camera. The camera settings are also the same as the ones for the rear cameras. The "More" tab contains Portrait, Mono, and Gif modes. Photo editing is done via the default Photos app with integrated Google Lens. From here, you can enhance, warm, or cool an image, adjust its brightness, contrast, white point, highlights, and other properties, crop, add filter, text, or markup.
