Global and local smartphone market leaders for Q3 2019Counterpoint Research has issued its latest smartphone market stats, so let's check it.

Globally, Samsung is the world's leader with 21% market share (2% up YoY), followed by Huawei with the Honor brand - 18% (4% up YoY). Apple is third with 12% market share (no change YoY). Oppo is fourth with 9% closely followed by Xiaomi and Vivo,e ach with 8%. Realme takes 3% of the global smartphone market. The rest of the brands account for 21%.

In China, the leader in the local smartphone market for Q3 is Huawei, which together with the Honor brand holds a 40% share - a 17% increase YoY and a 5% compared to Q2. Huawei's total shipments in Q3 reached 41.5 million units. Vivo and Oppo are second and third respectively, with 19% and 18% market share. They don't experience a significant change in market share, which varies with a percent or two. Xiaomi is fourth in China's market with 8% and a 5% decline in market share compared to Q3 of 2018.

The India smartphone market is quite different. It is led by Xiaomi with a 26% market share (1% down YoY). Samsung is second with 20% (3% down YoY), followed by Vivo with 17% (7% up YoY) and Realme with 16% (13% up YoY). It is actually Realme and partially Vivo that ate up from the growth of the other brands. Oppo remains fifth with 8% market share, which has not changed on a yearly basis.

In Europe, Samsung is the leader with 35% market share, followed by Huawei (21%), Apple (20%), Xiaomi (7%) and Oppo (2%).

In the US, Apple is the smartphone market leader with 42% (3% up YoY), followed by Samsung with 25% (no change YoY), LG with 12% (5% down YoY) and Lenovo with 8% (no change YoY). Source
