The Unihertz 8849 Shark 3 is the first smartphone by the brand to feature an AMOLED display. It spans on a 6.73-inch diagonal size. Moreover, it is also the first to feature a QHD+ resolution - 1440 x 3200 px. This means you get a higher pixel density and as a result - a finer image and sharper text rendering. Furthermore, the display supports a refresh rate of 120 Hz and from the display settings you can manually set it to 120Hz, 90Hz, 60Hz, or choose "Auto select" so the device intelligently switches between the different rates depending on the application and content you're viewing. The Dimensity 8300 chipset that powers the Shark 3 arrives with the MediaTek MiraVision 880 suite that supports high resolutions and refresh rates, HDR10+, and low blue light solutions on smartphone displays. This service analyzes the scenes within the video streaming in real-time, and then applies scene-adaptive settings to generate maximum picture quality. The new AI Region PQ now distinguishes regions within each scene to selectively adjust contrast, sharpness, and color tones through AI segmentation. The MiraVision settings for improving picture quality are included in the device's display settings. The graph above shows the maximum white luminance at different APL % with the automatic brightness off and in normal ambient light conditions. The maximum brightness of our review unit at 100% APL is 537 ². At the same time, the peak brightness at 10% APL is 648.139 ². Even though these are not the highest brightness values we've seen, due to the nature of AMOLED technology, the Shark 3's display offers comfortable outdoor viewing even on the brightest of days and in strongly lit environments. At the same time, it is really soft to the eyes at night and in poorly lit environments.

Our brightness uniformity measurement shows that the display is relatively uniformly bright in the top and middle tier but the third tier (at the bottom) is brighter. The top one-third of the screen has an average brightness of 523.2 nits and the middle one-third has a 526.6 nits average brightness. The bottom third's average brightness is 544.9 nits. The temperature of the white point is within the pleasing 8040-8180 K range in all measurement areas. The CIE diagram shows that the display has a wide color gamut and displays colors that are more vivid than if it were at 100% sRGB coverage. The RGB subpixel arrangement hints that most probably the AMOLED display of the Shark 3 is produced by BOE. It is very similar to that of Samsung's Diamond PenTile sub-pixel architecture but the red pixels on BOE's display panel have a brighter center that makes them look orange with a red outline.
