Unihertz 8849 Shark 3 Review

Rear cameras

The Unihertz 8849 Shark 3 has three rear cameras. The main one uses a 50MP Samsung S5KGN1 sensor with a 1/1.31" optical format and a 1.2 μm pixel size. The sensor is paired with an f/1.95 lens and outputs 12.5 MP images by default, thanks to its tetrapixel technology. This camera can record 4K videos at 30 fps. Other smartphones reviewed by us that use the ISOCELL GN1 sensor for their main cameras include the Ulefone Armor Mini 20 Pro, Armor Pad 4 Ultra Thermal, Ulefone Armor 27T Pro, Armor 27 Pro, Armor 25T, Armor 25T Pro 5G, Ulefone Note 18 Ultra, and the Armor 23 Ultra.

The second unit is a 64MP OmniVision OV64B1B Night Vision camera with four infrared lights. It supports FHD video recording. The third unit is a 50MP Samsung S5KJN1 telephoto camera with an f/2.0 aperture, autofocus, and 3.4x optical zoom. The sensor has a 1/2.76" optical format and a 0.64 μm pixel size. It also supports 4K video recording. Below we list photo samples from the main and telephoto cameras as well as 4K video samples shot with the main and the telephoto camera.

Selfie camera

The front-facing camera of the 8849 Shark 3 by Unihertz uses a 32MP OmniVision OV32B40 sensor with a 1/3.14" optical format and a 0.7 μmpixel size. It is paired with an f/1.7 lens and supports up to FHD video recording at 30 fps. The default photo output resolution is 8MP. Other smartphones reviewed by us that use the OV32B40 sensor for their front camera include the Ulefone Note 17 Pro and the Hafury Meet by Cubot.

Camera App

The Camera app is quite simple and intuitive. The bottom of the screen is occupied by the shutter button, the camera switch to its right, and the shortcut to the photos and videos to its left. The reel with shooting modes appears above those and the zoom levels, symbolizing the main (1x) and telephoto (3.4x) camera, are above the reel. The top of the screen is occupied by the camera settings icon and flash icon. The reel includes the default "Photo" mode, "Video", "Timelapse", and "Pro" which lets you adjust the white balance, ISO, exposure compensation, shutter speed, and focus metering type. The "More" tab includes the "Infrared" mode which switches to the Night Vision camera, "QR Code" scanner, "Mono", and "Super Resolution" which allows you to shoot in the sensor's original resolution. There are also options to edit the shooting modes on the main screen and the "More" tab. The interface for the front camera is largely the same but contains only the "Photo", "Video", "Timelapse", and "More" shooting modes. The settings for the available shooting modes are the same as the ones for the rear camera with the addition of a Mirror toggle for selfies. The "More" section contains a "Mono" shooting mode, "Super Resolution" for snapping photos in the original sensor resolution, and a shooting modes editor. The Photos app is the default application to open and edit photos and videos. It arrives with Google Lens integrated.
