Battery Tests

Cubot KingKong X has a 10200 mAh Li-Pol battery pack. It supports 33W fast charging. All battery tests we run on the devices we review are developed by us and performed with the screen of the device calibrated to 200 cd/m². All test results and comparisons are below. The battery of our KingKong X was charged in full for 2 hours and 55 minutes with the provided USB cable and charger. The charging process is fast until the battery regains 70% of its charge. That happens 1 hour and 8 minutes from the start. After this, the process slows down significantly. It takes 20 minutes to reach 80% and 1 hour and a half to charge the device in full. The battery temperature starts at 27°C, increases to 47°C in 40 minutes, stays at this level for around 20 minutes, and begins to decrease measuring 33°C in the end. During our intensive browsing test with the screen's refresh rate set at 60Hz, the battery lasted for 30 hours and 34 minutes, which is an excellent result for a smartphone with a 10200 mAh battery. The discharging process has a slightly slow start and end but it develops steadily for the majority of the time. The battery temperature starts at 31°C, reaches 34°C in 30 minutes, and remains at this level for 6 hours. After that, it goes up to 36°C, quickly decreasing to 35°C, and after 11 hours, it measures 34°C again. This level is maintained until the end. When the screen's refresh rate was set at 90Hz, the battery lasted for 23 hours and 35 minutes. The discharging process follows the same pattern with a slow start and end. The battery temperature is again in the healthy range of 33-37°C. Finally, when the screen's refresh rate was set at 120Hz, the battery lasted for 20 hours and 57 minutes. The discharging process follows the same pattern with a slow start and end. The battery temperature this time has a bigger amplitude. It begins at 30°C and reaches 39°C in 1 hour and 30 minutes, fluctuating between the 39°C and 37°C until the end. The video test for battery life uses a 1080p video at 30 fps with a ~20Mbps rate is used. Our review unit's score is 32 hours and 17 minutes. The discharging process follows the already familiar pattern. The battery temperature starts at 31°C and until the end fluctuates around 34°C. The 4K video battery life test uses a 2160p video at 30 fps with a ~55 Mbps rate. In this test, the battery of the Cubot KingKong X lasted for 28 hours and 36 minutes. The discharging process has a slow start for the first half an hour and a slow end for the last hour. In between, it develops steadily. The battery temperature starts at 40°C, drops to 36°C in 2 hours, and remains at this level until the end with minor fluctuations. For the 3D Graphics/Gaming test, Real Racing 3 is used. The result from this test is 18 hours and 35 minutes. The discharging process does not have very pronounced slower start and end but they are present but last shorter. The battery temperature starts at 34°C, reaches 40°C in two hours, and remains at this level for 12 hours. After that, it increases to 41°C and gradually reaches 42°C at the end. The above photos of the Cubot KingKong X are taken with a FLIR thermal camera. The upper photo shows the device's temperature during charging. The hottest part is right above the center of the body with a temperature of 41.2°C. The areas above and below it measure 40.2°C and 40.4°C. The photo below shows the device during our 3D Graphics/Gaming test. In this case, the hottest part is the center of the chin with a temperature of 38.°C.

Battery Settings

The Battery menu is quite simple as it contains only three toggles - one for the battery saver, one for showing on/off the battery percentage, and one for showing the percentage in or outside the battery icon in the status bar. The battery-saver options are standard. From the Apps menu in the settings, you can manage the battery optimization properties for each individual app.
