Apple unveils the iPhone 17e with advanced camera upgrades, A19 power, and satellite connectivity

According to Apple, the new device delivers faster performance, a more advanced camera system, improved durability, MagSafe support, and double the starting storage - all beginning at the same $599 price point as the previous generation.
The iPhone 17e features an aerospace‑grade aluminum frame and Ceramic Shield 2, which Apple says offers 3x better scratch resistance and reduced glare compared to the previous generation. The device is IP68‑rated for splash, water, and dust resistance, and comes in three matte‑finish colors: black, white, and soft pink. The 6.1‑inch Super Retina XDR display reaches up to 1200 nits HDR brightness, making it easier to view content outdoors.
At the core of iPhone 17e is the A19 chip, built on advanced 3‑nanometer technology. Apple states that the 6‑core CPU is up to 2x faster than iPhone 11, while the 4‑core GPU with Neural Accelerators supports console‑level gaming and hardware‑accelerated ray tracing. The upgraded 16‑core Neural Engine is optimized for large generative models and powers Apple Intelligence features such as Clean Up and Live Translation.
The new C1X modem, designed by Apple, delivers up to 2x faster cellular speeds than the modem in iPhone 16e while using 30% less energy, contributing to the device's all‑day battery life. Fast charging via USB‑C brings the battery to 50% in about 30 minutes, and MagSafe and Qi2 enable 15W wireless charging, double the speed of iPhone 16e's Qi charging.
iPhone 17e introduces a 48MP Fusion camera capable of capturing high‑detail photos, next‑generation portraits, and 4K Dolby Vision video up to 60 fps. The sensor enables an optical‑quality 2x Telephoto, effectively giving users two cameras in one. Portrait mode benefits from an upgraded image pipeline that automatically detects people, dogs, and cats, saving depth information so users can adjust focus after capture. Video recording includes Spatial Audio, improved wind‑noise reduction, and new editing options through Audio Mix.
Apple continues to expand its satellite‑based services. When outside cellular or Wi‑Fi coverage, iPhone 17e supports Messages via satellite, Emergency SOS, Roadside Assistance, and Find My via satellite, helping users stay connected in critical situations. Crash Detection remains available, automatically contacting emergency services in severe car accidents.
iPhone 17e ships with iOS 26, featuring a refreshed design built with Liquid Glass, expanded personalization options, and deeper integration of Apple Intelligence. Users gain access to Live Translation across Messages, FaceTime, Phone, and AirPods; visual intelligence that can interpret on‑screen content; and new tools like Call Screening and Hold Assist to reduce interruptions. Messages can now automatically filter unknown senders into a dedicated folder.
Apple highlights that iPhone 17e is made with 30% recycled materials, including 85% recycled aluminum in the enclosure and 100% recycled cobalt in the battery. Manufacturing uses 55% renewable electricity, and packaging is fully fiber‑based. Apple emphasizes durability, repairability, and long software support as part of its Apple 2030 environmental goals.
The iPhone 17e starts at $599 with 256GB of storage, doubling the previous generation’s entry capacity. A 512GB option is also available. Pre‑orders open March 4, with availability beginning March 11 in more than 70 countries and regions. Trade‑in offers can reduce the cost significantly, with up to $599 in carrier credits for eligible devices.
