They both use Kunlung Glass 2 for the front and have an IP68 and IP69-rated build for water and dust resistance. The two are almost identical, with differences mainly in the camera and chipset department.
At the heart of the Mate 80 and its Pro sibling lies a 6.75-inch OLED display with rounded corners, delivering vivid visuals through its support for 10.7 billion colors and the P3 wide color gamut. The screen adapts dynamically with a 1–120 Hz LTPO refresh rate, ensuring smooth transitions whether scrolling or gaming. With a resolution of 2832 × 1280 pixels, high-frequency 1440 Hz PWM dimming, and a 300 Hz touch sampling rate, the display is engineered for both clarity and responsiveness.
Performance of the Mate 80 is driven by the Kirin 9020 processor, offering seamless multitasking and optimized system efficiency. Storage options include 12 GB or 16 GB of RAM alongside 256 GB or 512 GB of ROM, though expansion via memory cards is not supported. The Mate 80 Pro is based on the Kirin 9030 chipset with 12GB and 16GB of RAM. The storage options include 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB.
Photography is a centerpiece of the Mate 80 and 80 Pro. The rear camera system features a 50-megapixel variable lens with optical image stabilization and RYYB sensor technology and a 40-megapixel ultra-wide lens. The vanilla model boasts a 12-megapixel periscope telephoto lens with OIS, while the Mate 80 Pro has a 48MP telephoto unit with an f/2.1 aperture and OIS. Huawei's XMAGE imaging style, AI-assisted composition, and advanced modes such as Super Night, cinematic effects, astrophotography, and RAW shooting elevate creative possibilities. On the front of both devices, a 13-megapixel ultra-wide camera paired with a 3D depth sensor ensures detailed selfies and secure facial recognition.
Battery life is equally impressive, with a 5750 mAh capacity supporting 66W wired and 50W wireless charging on the vanilla model and 100W wired and 80W wireless charging on the Pro model. Reverse charging, both wired and wireless, adds versatility for powering other devices. Connectivity options include dual Nano-SIM slots, Wi-Fi 7 compatibility, Bluetooth 6.0 with support for high-resolution audio codecs, and satellite communication via Beidou. The device also integrates NFC for payments, USB Type-C 3.1 for fast data transfer, and a suite of sensors ranging from 3D facial recognition to barometers and gyroscopes, ensuring precision in navigation and interaction.
