Display

Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite evolves around a 6.26-inch IPS display from Tianma. It has an FHD+ resolution (1080 x 2280 pixels) and 1500:1 static contrast ratio. The screen is protected by a 2.5D curved Corning Gorilla Glass. The display panel has a classic vertically striped RGB sub-pixel arrangement. The Display menu contains a Night Mode and a Reading Mode for eye protection. It lets you choose from a total of nine display profiles. They are achieved by combining each of the three colour options with each of the three contrast options: standard, warm, and cool plus automatic, increased, and standard. We have measured the display's brightness, contrast and colour temperature in two of the total nine possible combinations, namely the standard colours combined with the automatic and standard contrast.

Standard colours, Automatic contrast

The "Standard colours, Automatic contrast" combination is the default one for the display of the Mi 8 Lite. It is characterized by a high temperature of the white point, higher brightness and better contrast ratio compared to the "Standard colours, Standard contrast" profile. The maximum brightness of the screen is 477.308 cd/m². This brightness is relatively high but not quite enough for comfortable outdoor viewing on a sunny day. The contrast ratio is just as specified - 1500:1. The temperature of the white point is in the 8500 K range.

The CIE diagram unveils a colours space coverage that's wider than 100% sRGB.

Standard colours, Standard contrast

This display profile from the settings offers almost perfect colour temperature values - around 6600 K. This means that the display looks significantly warmer and won't tire the eyes as it would do with a higher colour temperature. This is at the expense of providing lower white luminance values and higher black luminance values compared to the "Standard colours, Automatic contrast" profile. The maximum brightness is 420.273 cd/m². The black luminance is higher than the corresponding measurement from the previous profile and the contrast ratio is significantly lower - 1100:1.

The CIE diagram shows an exact match for 100% of the sRGB colour space. All data shows that this mode is perfectly calibrated like all Xiaomi flagship devices.
