Audio Test

The audio test has been performed by using the TASCAM US-2x2 audio interface and the RightMark Audio Analyzer software as usual. All audio enhancement features are disabled. The frequency response of our review unit is excellent, the THD+Noise parameter is good, and the rest of the parameters are rated as very good, so is the overall result of the audio test. This means that in terms of audio, the Mi 8 Lite offers an average audio quality. The device is equipped with a single, bottom-firing speaker, placed to the right of the USB Type-C 2.0 port. According to our subjective opinion, the sound from the speaker is better than average. According to our subjective opinion, it does offer some depth and treble, and distortion at the highest pitches is minimized.

Music App

Mi 8 Lite utilizes Xiaomi's proprietary Music app, which is an integral part of its media ecosystem. It has been entirely redesigned ever since MIUI 9.5. We are reviewing the app as part of the original Chinese ROM, so all options for downloading and streaming music are available. The main screen of the app contains several "tabs" that sort the online music in charts, featured and special. The My tab is the one-page manager of your audio files. It sorts them in the following folders: Recently played, Favorites, My playlists. These are followed by music suggestions and the Shuffle Playback option. The Now Playing screen contains a shortcut to the playlist, a second screen where lyrics should appear if available, options for sharing the file, and settings that include the headphones & audio effects, sleep timer, set as ringtone, edit song info, remove from queue. The Headphones & Audio effects are available only after you plug in headphones into the device. They include the usual settings for button assignment, equalizer and Mi Sound Enhancer. A new Karaoke feature is added to the Now Playing screen and can be accessed if you tap on the microphone icon. This options debuted on MIUI 9.5.
