Battery Tests
Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Pro is equipped with a 4000 mAh battery that supports Qualcomm Quick Charge 4 and arrives with a 5V/3A~9V/2A~12V/1.5A fast charger. Xiaomi specifies 22.5 hours of talk time, 450 hours of standby time, 7 hours of gaming and 15.5 hours of video playback. All battery tests we run on the devices we review are developed by us and performed with the screen of the device being calibrated to 200 cd/m2.
The battery of our review unit charged in full for 1 hour and 57 minutes with the provided USB data cable and charger. The process maintains a steady pace from the start until the battery reaches 90% of its capacity, which happens 1 hour and 23 minutes from the start. After that, charging slows down a bit and the battery needs 34 minutes to reach 100% of its capacity. The battery temperature starts at 31°C and in 6 minutes jumps to 37°C and immediately after that, drops to 36°C. It continues to increase gradually and in 24 minutes reaches 38°C. It maintains this level for 41 minutes and after that, starts decreasing until it reaches 28°C at the end.
During our intensive browsing test, the battery of our review unit lasted for 10 hours and 23 minutes. The discharging process starts hastily but in 5 minutes stabilizes and continues to develop at a steady speed until the end. The battery temperature starts at 32°C and gradually reaches 33°C, remaining at this level until the end.
1920x1080, 30 fps, H.264, 20Mbps bitrate
The video test for battery life uses a 1080p video at 30 fps with a ~20Mbps rate is used. Our review unit's score from this test is 13 hours and 27 minutes. The discharging process starts slowly - it takes 17 minutes to drop from 100% to 99%, after that discharging speeds up a bit and maintains a steady pace until the end. The battery temperature starts at 29°C, reaches 30°C in 17 minutes and stays there for 40 minutes, after which it goes up to 31°C maintaining this level until the end.
3840x2160, 30 fps, H.264, ~55 Mbps bitrate
The 4K video battery life test uses a 2160p video at 30 fps with a ~55 Mbps rate. In this test, the battery of the Redmi Note 7 Pro lasted for 12 hours and 47 minutes. The discharging process develops with almost one and the same speed from the start until the end with a minor fluctuation in the beginning. The battery temperature starts at 26°C and in 43 minutes reaches 31°C. This level is maintained almost until the end because the temperature rises to 32°C only for the last 20 minutes.
YEBIS OpenGL ES 3.0 3D Tech Demo
For the 3D Graphics/Gaming test, the YEBIS OpenGL ES 3.0 3D Tech Demo is used. The battery of our review unit lasted for 5 hours and 28 minutes. The discharging process begins slowly - for the first 9 minutes, the capacity drops by 1%. After that, it gains speed and maintains a steady pace until the end. The battery temperature starts at 30°C and in 9 minutes reaches 35°C continuing to increase gradually. After another 50 minutes, it measures 40°C. 20 minutes later, it goes up to 41°C and remains at that level for 3 hours and 30 minutes. After that, the temperature increases to 42°C and remains at this level until the end.

Battery Software
As usual, MIUI mixes the Battery settings with the Battery management tools from the Security app. In MIUI 10.2 all these are simplified. There is no battery management main screen. If you tap on the Battery section of the Security app, it opens the battery usage optimization screen instead and the usage history in terms of apps and hardware. Of course, there's a battery saver feature for each app. It gives you more granular control over draining by managing each app individually in terms of power usage. From the Battery manager settings, you can also use a number of power saving settings such as battery drain and heating notifications, toggles for clearing cache and turning off mobile data when the device is locked. It also includes a Schedule power on & off menu. The Battery menu from the System Settings actually leads to the power manager of the Security application, adding only one feature - the Smart Scenes. In MIUI 10, this includes only the Sleep Mode. If the Sleep Mode is on, MIUI will know that you're sleeping and will not light up the screen for notifications, will restrict Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, mobile data and GPS usage, and will close all background apps.
