Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Pro Review

Performance

Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Pro is based on a Snapdragon 675 system-on-chip and this is one of the main differences between this smartphone and the Redmi Note 7, which relies on a Snapdragon 660 chip. The SD675 one is built after Samsung's 11nm LPP FinFET process and houses a newer-generation CPU and GPU. It features an octa-core Kryo 460 CPU (4th gen) with two 2GHz cores (Cortex-A76) and six 1.7GHz cores (Cortex-A55). The graphics are managed by an Adreno 612 GPU (6th gen). There's also a Spectra 250L ISP on board which can support a true 48MP camera without pixel binning. A 6th gen Hexagon 685 DSP and 3rd gen Qualcomm AI Engine are parts of the mobile platform as well. For comparison, the Snapdragon 660 is built after the 14nm process and features an octa-core Kryo 260 CPU with four 2.2GHz cores and four 1.95GHz cores. It is coupled with an Adreno 512 GPU and Spectra 160 ISP. Redmi Note 7 Pro is equipped with 4GB/6GB of double-channel LPDDR4X RAM from Samsung clocked at 1866MHz. There are either 64GB or 128GB of eMMC 5.1 built-in memory, expandable with up to 256GB. We are reviewing a 6GB+128GB unit. Of those 128GB on board, 113GB are available to the user.
Our review unit scored 180717 points in AnTuTu 7, which clearly places it above the Snapdragon 660 and Snapdragon 710 and below Snapdragon 835. The single-core Geekbench 4 result puts it closer to the Snapdragon 845, while the multi-core Geekbench 4 result puts it closer to Snapdragon 835. On the 3DMark Sling Shot and Ice Storm tests, the Redmi Note 7 Pro scores less than the Redmi Note 7, which is based on a Snapdragon 660 chipset. However, on the PCMark tests, it is exactly the opposite and the results are definitely in favour of the Pro model. Another interesting detail we've noticed is the very high PCMark Storage result as well as the very high for this type of built-in memory (eMMC 5.1) sequential read speeds, according to Androbench.
