Redmi K30 Review

Display

The Redmi K30 features a 6.67-inch IPS display with an FHD+ resolution (1080 x 2400). It is protected by a 2.5D curved Corning Gorilla Glass 5 with oleophobic coating. The screen has a TÜV Rheinland Low Blue Light Certification and supports HDR10. It also supports a 120Hz refresh rate, which makes interaction with it simply a breeze. The difference compared to 60Hz is noticeable. You get the option to switch to 60Hz though in order to save battery life. Whether power saving is significant - this is answered in the Battery section of this review where we compare the browsing battery life test with the screen at 120Hz and at 60Hz.

In MIUI 11, Xiaomi has changed the display profiles a bit. Now you get a total of nine combinations between three variants for the color temperature (default, warm, and cool) and three color profiles (auto, saturated, standard). In this review, we measure the white and black luminance, contrast and temperature of the white point of three of these profiles - the default color temperature coupled with each of the color variants. The display of the Redmi K30 is pretty bright. With the auto profile and default colors under high ambient light conditions, we could measure a peak brightness of 732 nits. At the same time, the temperature of the white point was very good - 7482 K. If you switch on the Reading Mode from the display settings, the peak brightness is 421.44 cd/m² and the color temperature is 4425 K. The lowest brightness we could measure was 1.874 cd/m² and the color temperature was 4420 K.

Default color temperature, Automatic colors

The "Default color temperature, Automatic colors" profile is the default one for the display of the Redmi K30. Under this profile, the maximum brightness of our review unit's screen is 578.417 cd/m². The contrast ratio is very good for an IPS display at around 1400:1. The temperature of the white point is around 7500 K. The CIE diagram unveils a color space coverage that is wider than 100% sRGB.

Default color temperature, Saturated colors

The "Default color temperature, Saturated colors" display profile offers a slightly lower brightness and lower contrast - 573.356 cd/m² and 1274:1. The temperature of the white point is also slightly lower than the one of the previous profile - 7400 K. The CIE diagram of this profile is the same as the one of the previous profile with a color space coverage wider than 100% sRGB.

Default color temperature, Standard colors

Finally, there's the "Default color temperature, Standard colors" profile. If you want razer-sharp color calibration to 100% s RGB and natural colors that are not overboosted - you should go for this profile. The maximum brightness here is only slightly lower, while the contrast ratio remains almost the same as the one of the previous profile. They measure 548.406 cd/m² and 1241:1, respectively. In addition, the temperature of the white point is the lowest compared to the other two profiles - 6700 K. The CIE diagram shows perfect 100% sRGB coverage.
