Redmi K30 Review

Performance

The Redmi K30 is based on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 730G chipset. Built on the 8nm process, it houses an octa-core CPU with 2x 2.2GHz and 6x 1.8GHz Kryo 470 cores. The graphics department is headed by a Qualcomm Adreno 618 GPU that offers 25% higher performance than the Snapdragon 710 and Vulkan 1.1 support with 20% lower power than Open GL ES. In addition to having Qualcomm's Elite Gaming features, they are also aided by Xiaomi's Mi Turbo and Game Turbo 2.0 software. There are 6GB or 8GB of dual-channel LPDDR4X RAM clocked at 1866 MHz. The UFS 2.1 internal storage is either 64GB, 128GB or 256GB and can be further expanded. We are reviewing a 6GB+128GB unit. Of those 128GB, 110GB is available to the user. Just like other Xiaomi smartphones, the Redmi K30 arrives with a system-level optimization with the Mi Turbo - the underlying optimization technology of the system which also protects it against aging. It offers defragmentation for I/O performance optimization and application startup speed optimization. For gamers, Xiaomi has also included the Game Turbo 2.0 acceleration which mobilizes resources to bring improved gaming experience. Game Turbo supports perceived complex game scenarios, intelligently schedules system resources, customizes touch parameters during gaming, and supports custom game display enhancements. More specifically, these features include support for shooting game 4D touch, display CPU usage, GPU occupancy, FPS control, one-click switching network card, information screen floating, game performance enhancement, optimized touch response, custom edge suppression range, turning off automatic brightness, three-finger screen capture, eye protection mode, etc. In terms of AnTuTu 7 results, the Snapdragon 730G on the Redmi K30 outperforms the Kirin 970 and has a similar performance to the Helio G90T on the Redmi Note 8 Pro. The same applies to the results from the Geekbench 5 (single and multi-core) - the Helio G90T and Snapdraon 730G perform on par in this test. The Geekbench 4 single-core results show that the Snapdragon 730G slightly outperforms the Snapdraon 845 and the multi-core result suggests it outperforms the Snapdragon 935 and Kirin 970. The PCMark Work 2.0 result of our device puts it on par with other devices we've tested that are based on a Snapdragon 855 chipset (Xiaomi Mi 9, for example).
