Cubot X18 Review

Performance

As long as it concerns performance, Cubot X18 relies on a 64-bit MediaTek MT6737T system-on-chip. This chipset is oriented to provide LTE Cat. 4 connectivity to smartphones from the entry-level to mid-range tier. It is built on the 28nm process and includes a 1.5GHz CPU with four Cortex-A53 cores coupled with a 600MHz Mali-T720 MP2 GPU. This is the most powerful variant of the MediaTek MT6737 chipset. In this device, the SoC is combined with 3GB of single-channel, LPDDR3 RAM clocked at 733MHz and 32GB of eMMC 5.0 internal memory expandable with up to 128GB. Of those, 24GB are available to the user. Oukitel U20 Plus, which we have reviewed as well, has the same chipset. The Cubot X18 results from these synthetic benchmarks tests show that in some tests it is outperformed by the Oukitel U20 Plus but in most cases, it prevails over it. We have noticed that the device has a hard time in performing some of the tests, especially the 3DMark Sling Shot ones. Every now and then, when using it with lots of apps running in the background, the device slows down a bit before resuming to normal operation. You can definitely enjoy all basic functions such as browsing, reading and playing light games, but for sure a minor increase in the workload will slow down the smartphone noticeably.
